Update – Full-bore Target Rifle Shooting & NRA Youth Imperial Meeting

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has recently announced the launch of the ‘NRA Youth Imperial’ in 2026 on its website – see https://nra.org.uk/youth-imperial-meeting/.

Following discussion with HQ Army Regional Command (as the lead for tri-Service cadet shooting), and for the avoidance of any doubt or potential confusion, CCRS has been asked to communicate the following:

  • As from 01 January 2026 full-bore target rifle shooting is no longer a cadet authorised activity.
  • Any young person intending to participate or participating in the NRA’s Youth Imperial Meeting (not just target rifle) is of course welcome to do so, but not as a cadet.  This means that the event is entirely NRA and privately resourced and funded.
  • Clarification on disposal of the CFBTR L81A2 is awaited.
