Major Michael Nash

CCRS pays tribute to Michael Nash who has died, aged 86.

Lt Col Michael Nash took over as Master i/c shooting at Epsom College from Lt Col Rex Goddard in 1974, ‘stepping down’ to Major as he did so, having been Commanding Officer Epsom College CCF until 1974. Michael was Commandant of the British Under 18 Cadet Rifle Team (BCRT – the Athelings) in 1982. As Master i/c Shooting at Epsom he had a record run of five consecutive Ashburton wins from 1990 to 1994. Parag Patel (winner of the Queen’s Prize in 2017 and the Grand Aggregate for a record-equalling 4th time in 2021) was Captain of the Epsom team in 1994 and very much a product of Michael’s leadership. In retirement Michael continued as Competitions Officer of the British Schools Small-bore Rifle Association (BSSRA) and co-ordinated all the schools’ small-bore leagues for many years. Michael was a great servant to Cadet shooting and the Cadet movement over a number of decades, and we remember him with honour and thanksgiving.
